Frequently Asked Questions
General Topics
What insurances do you take?
While currently in-process of getting paneled with insurance companies, at this time I am only able to accept private pay clients.
Where do you meet clients/supervisees?
The DBT group is in-person and location will be disclosed after signing up. Currently, I am offering telehealth-only for therapy, but will continue to assess client need and I do plan to have an in-person space in the future. Location for supervision would be supervisee’s choice, and I am happy to drive most places in the Portland/Vancouver area, or am able to meet remotely.
What occurs during the initial 15-minute consult?
Whether you are seeking therapy for yourself or your child, hoping to have your child join the DBT group, or are looking for a clinical supervisor, we will use the consult time to explore your needs and see if my services are a good fit. If not, I will always try to help with other referrals to help you get your needs met.
Therapy Topics
What happens during our first session?
We will spend some time getting to know one another, discuss current needs/concerns as well as hopes for the future. Then together will set some goals and decide when to next meet and how often our sessions will occur.
How long does therapy take?
It is truly different for everyone. While some may come to therapy with specific goals that could only take a few months to address, others find benefit in long-term therapeutic relationship that could span years. Ultimately, it is your choice how long you’d like therapy to continue, and it gets to be an ongoing conversation.
How often will I need to attend?
Therapy works best when it is regular and consistent, so most people choose to attend once a week, or at least biweekly. Needs may fluctuate over time, and I will work with you to find what feels best.
Group Topics
Who is a good candidate for group?
The group is created for middle and high school aged students who are looking to build coping skills and connect with others. Youth who do well with verbal processing of information will likely feel the most success.
Is this a therapy processing group?
No. While youth are invited to share aspects of their life/identity with others to build connection, this group is meant to provide psychoeducation and skill building, and is not talk therapy.
Are there any other considerations before I refer my child?
DBT skills can be helpful to support individuals in managing strong emotions and even safety risks. However, this group is not appropriate for someone as a standalone service to help with significant safety concerns, and instead should be treated as supplementary to a more comprehensive treatment approach.
Supervision Topics
What is your experience?
I hold clinical licenses in both Oregon and Washington, and have been supervising interns, associates and licensed clinicians for the last 5 years. I have supervised up to 10 clinicians at the same time.
What is your supervision style?
I have found that a relationship-driven and collaborative approach works best for me and my supervisees over the years, with each of us bringing content/topics to our meetings, and both being open to adapting as time goes on and needs change.
Do you offer group supervision?
I have run groups before and would be open to it again, should the need arise and there is enough interest. Let me know what you are hoping for!
